About the Day for Dorothy

On the 11^th of January 2020, I lost my Mumma Bear to her battle with Alzheimer’s. 2025 will be the 5th anniversary of Mum's passing and every year in her honour we run a fundraiser at Niche CrossFit called the 'Day for Dorothy'. The Day for Dorothy is an occasion to celebrate the memory of Dorothy Shanahan, to promote mental health through physical fitness and community, and to raise funds for a worthy cause so that other families can get the support they need through difficult times.

Niche CrossFit does this by running an all abilities group fitness class designed to bring people together to discuss health and wellness, to recognise the health challenges we face as a community, and to make a small differences by donating what people can towards research and support to those in need.

Previously we have donated to Alzheimer’s Western Australia, a charity that supported Dorothy and many others. This year, the Niche family has welcomed Riley Isla Beavis to it’s fold, and we are looking to support another organisation close to our hearts. In 2025, all donations will be for the Perth Children’s Hospital in hope of giving what we can to all of those tiny hearts around WA. Dorothy dreamed of being a grandmother, and it seems only suiting to support an organisation who loves little ones as much as she did.
